Lithium-ion batteries power many consumer products

This includes phones, computers, power tools, vacuum cleaners, lawnmowers, e-scooters, e-cigarettes, toys, e-bikes, and electric vehicles. These batteries are essential for modern electronics, but they also require proper care and handling.

Use products that are listed or safety certified by a nationally recognized testing laboratory

Read and follow any other guidelines provided by the manufacturer.

Use the original lithium-ion batteries that came with your product

Contact the original manufacturer if you need replacement batteries. If you cannot reach the original manufacturer, contact the product retailer.

Make sure you have working smoke alarms on every storey and outside all sleeping areas of your home. In the event of a fire, follow your home fire escape plan and call 911 once safely outside your home.

Household Devices

Only purchasing devices listed by a qualified testing laboratory.

Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Only use the battery and charging unit designed for your device.

Only use batteries that have one of the recognized

Store batteries away from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, exits, and anything flammable. Do not charge them at temperatures below 0°C (32°F) or above 40°C (105°F).

Avoid storing lithium-ion batteries together and keep a distance of at least 1 meter (3 feet) between them.

Keep devices away from moisture. Water can seep into the battery and cause dangerous chemical reactions.

E-Mobility Devices

Always use the lithium-ion battery that comes with your e-bike or e-scooter.

Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Don't use batteries that are swollen, dented, or have damaged plastic wrappers.

Only use chargers that have one of the recognized

Electric vehicles have high-voltage batteries. If you own or plan to purchase an electric vehicle, call a licensed electrician to install a new, dedicated circuit for your EV charging device.

Purchase a charging device from the electric vehicle manufacturer and ensure that it is certified by a nationally recognized testing laboratory.
